Located in the Feitsui Reservoir Protection Area of Xindian, the Family Tree project is a residential design that draws its inspiration from the natural surroundings. The designer used the spiral staircase in the middle of the residence as an inspiration for a family tree, creating a space that represents the individual characteristics and preferences of each family member.
The design process involved a careful evaluation and reinforcement of the structure, aiming to preserve the memories and stories of the building. The outer wall was redecorated with white glazed tiles and the flooring with stone mosaic, introducing a refreshing new style to the residence. The result is a design that is both sustainable and emotionally heart-warming, merging old and new elements in a harmonious blend.
One of the unique features of this design is the use of various materials such as Taiwanese BA black jade(marble), Taiwanese white marbles, kaolinites, granites, mosaic tiles, carbonized plywood, Lotol, black glasses, terrazzo tiles, and glass tiles. These materials were used to create layers of emotional and heart-warming elements, adding depth and character to the space.
The design process was not without its challenges. The designer had to collect thoughts and suggestions from the ten household members, understanding each unique interest and expectation for their future living space. This information was then merged into the family tree design, making it a truly personalized space that reflects the family's legacy and philosophy.
The Family Tree project was completed in February 2021 in Taiwan. It was awarded Silver in A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2022, a testament to its outstanding design and innovation. The award recognizes top-of-the-line, creative, and professionally remarkable designs that illustrate outstanding expertise and innovation.
